Greetings to all Association members,
I would like to update you about a number of important issues on our agenda.
General meeting
The Association’s 2021 general meeting was held online. The financial statements were presented, , new Board members were approved, and the directions of the Association’s activities for this year were presented. The next meeting will be held at the Kinneret Conference (see below for more information on the conference).
The Biannual Conference
The Association’s next biannual conference will be held on February 24-25, 2022, and is hosted by the Kinneret College. A considerable number of guests from abroad will be attending the conference, in the hope that health regulations will permit their attendance. it, and simultaneous translation will be available. We will shortly be publishing the list of participants from abroad who have confirmed their participation.
I expect all Association members – and the Board members in particular – to send proposals for talks or sessions for this conference on their behalf or on behalf of their research students/associates.
Please use this link for updated information on the call for proposals for the sixth Kinneret Conference.
Research
The newsletter also includes an abstract of new study initiated by a number of Association members on the willingness of young men from the Arab community to enlist for defense and civic service. The complete research findings – which are extremely interesting – will be presented in the near future, and at the Kinneret Conference.
The Association is holding four research workshops involving dozens of researchers on the following topics:
1. Youth and defense service.
2. Archaeology, culture, and security
3. The Covid-19 epidemic and security
4. Workshop for research students
5. The Association also organizes study tours (two have been conducted so far). The Association also held a conference on the Covid-19 pandemic in conjunction with the Health & Medicine Section of the Israeli Sociological Society;
6. As part of its research activities, the Association issues a monthly newsletter on research in its fields of interest. The newsletter is also translated and distributed in English. Work on newsletter 3 is underway and will be issued in October.
Funding
I repeat my appeal from the previous letter on this issue. Our activities need financial support, and I am taking this opportunity to appeal to each and every one of you with a request to donate to the Association openly or anonymously.
I extend my heartfelt thanks for the generous contribution of Mr. Chen Noy, the Association’s accountant, toward the Association’s research activities.
I wish us all a good and prosperous new year and remind you that we are at your disposal to promote the Association’s aims.
Sincerely,
Prof. Uzi Ben-Shalom
Chair of the Association of Civil-Military Studies in Israel
